
The Villages

Olympos is a graphic village set on a mountain slope in Northern Karpathos. It has been frequently called a folklore heaven. Today, the village has a population of 400 inhabitants most of whom are engaged in farming and agriculture. Olympos retains an old fashioned way of life where primitive customs play an important role. Many churches are found close to Olympos village, such as the 16th century church of Panagia in the square that celebrates on August 15th.

Constructed along the slopes of a rocky hill, Menetes is a small village with rich musical tradition and authentic architecture.

Aperi used to be the old capital of the island. Hidden by high slopes, Aperi was not used from the sea, so it was a protected area against pirates in the Medieval times. Today, it is a small village with typical architecture.

Pigadia is the capital and main port of the island. The modern village stands on the location of ancient Potideon, whose ruins are seen at the entrance of the port. This is a nice base to explore the beaches and villages of Karpathos.

Mesochori is a traditional village built between the sea and the rocky mainland. The architecture of Mesochori distinguishes by narrow paths, white houses and small chapels.

Lefkos is a seaside village that has developed many tourist facilities over the last years. The region around Lefkos has many small coves with sandy coast.

Finiki is a small and picturesque fishing port with some tourist facilities. It gets pretty popular in summer.

Othos is a traditional village famous for its local festivities. It is situated at an altitude of 510 m and it is surrounded by lush greenery.

This is a tiny, mountainous village close to Aperi. Totally unaffected by tourism, Volada offers a clear view of rural life in Karpathos.

A small village located on the north western side of the island, Piles is close to secluded beaches and has a small agricultural museum.

Diafani is a small tourist village close to Olympos. Located on the northern side, Diafani is the second most important port of the island.
